Our MD David has recently been featured in the FSB magazine The Voice. You can read the full article below:
David Holdsworth’s name is likely to be familiar to businesses across West Yorkshire. Chair of the Calderdale Branch of the FSB, he is also from a family synonymous with the area’s textile heritage, the Holdsworths of Halifax.
His family established John Holdsworth & Company, at one time the world’s largest manufacturer of passenger transport upholstery fabrics, based at the town’s Shaw Lodge Mills.
Following the sale of the family business eight years ago, he put his experience to use by founding Textile Innovations – an innovative business which specialises in developing and sourcing, both locally and globally, materials, components and processes for major UK and EU manufacturing operations.
The business has doubled its number of customers in the past twelve months while also increasing turnover by 30 per cent.
With a range of experience in business, David is now a passionate advocate for small firms – he was Secretary of the Calderdale branch for four years until he took over as Chair in October 2014, representing the 800 members in the district. He is an active Committee Member for the West Yorkshire region.
“I am proud of my role as Chairman of the FSB in Calderdale and always struck by the passion, commitment and dedication of entrepreneurs that goes into building and developing their businesses and supporting the country’s economic recovery.“Having set up, grown and managed my own small business I am acutely aware of the challenges faced and committed to using the platform of the FSB to ensure those in positions of power know about these issues in the hope they can ease the burdens on firms.“After the General Election, we are now waiting to see what the new government will do for small businesses. In the run up to polling day, I met with prospective MPs and highlighted the issues in the FSB Business Manifesto including further education, exporting support and business rates.“I also raised specific issues relevant to Calderdale, and the whole of West Yorkshire, which includes transport infrastructure and the roll-out of high quality, high speed internet connections so that companies here can compete around the world.”
David believes that the success of his own business is down to forging close relationships with key businesses and providing the high quality, personal service that only a small business passionate about its products and services can provide. He says this can be a key point of difference for any FSB member:
“We live in a global marketplace where options and alternatives are just a click away. This is both a challenge and an opportunity for any business, particularly small firms, allowing them to compete on a level playing field – but also giving them nowhere to hide. It is an exciting time to be a small business owner – there should be no limit to our ambitions.”
